Exploring Ancient Egypt Funerals
Stretching for almost 30 centuries, Ancient Egypt was the most predominant and supreme civilization in the Mediterranean. During the dynastic periods, Egypt was under the rule of the Pharaohs and their kin. We seek to explore the relationships between status and kinship through evidence found in Ancient Egyptian burials. We will also attempt to recognize shifts in burial practices through the eye of religion and the role of the monarch.
When addressing the implications of burials on the status and kinship of a society, it is increasingly important to note that funerary practices transform over time. As we explore status and kinship in Egypt, the chronology of burial practices becomes highly important relative to the detailed timeline that follows.
